Best Computer Speakers
What Are Your Goals In Buying Computer
Speakers?
Do you want quality sound (fidelity)? Or do you just want LOTS of
sound (Decibels)? The answer to this question normally is based on whether your PC Speakers are being
used for casual audio needs or if you are big in to Video Games and watching movies on your PC.
What To Consider When Buying Computer
Speakers
There are really three types of PC speaker systems.
- General purpose (stock) PC speakers are for those with very basic audio
needs. Stock speakers are two speaker systems that are placed in the same general area as the
monitor.
- Three piece speaker systems provide higher quality audio and more
decibels. These are the two speaker systems that include the separate Woofer for the low end (bass)
frequencies.
- 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 Surround Sound Systems. These systems involve both a
financial commitment and a "real estate" commitment as you have the audio split up in to multiple channels
requiring multiple speakers to "produce" the Surround Sound. Head on over to wikipedia for the
technical details of surround sound.
What To Spend
If you are a casual listener - you can start at $5 and work your way up in
price.
For the "more than casual" and "less than audiophile" listener - plan on spending
between $50 - $100 dollars
For the audiophile - You can quickly work your way up to "many" hundreds of
dollars. Your wallet is the limit!
Last But Not Least
The quality of sound from your new speakers is still only as good as the Audio
Card processing the sound (prior to handing off to your speakers)!
