Bluetooth Computer Speakers

So you are considering Bluetooth Computer Speakers?  There are many reasons to consider a wireless technology for your pc speakers.   The incessant tangle of power cords and wires is reason enough to seriously consider it.  More and more our computers are becoming the "music hub" so having the ability to place speakers throughout the environment without being limited by wiring is very desirable.

One thing to realize is that Bluetooth computer speakers are not totally wireless.  They still require a power cable and a wire between the speakers themselves.  Once your research is complete and you've decided on the brand and model, be sure that the your place of purchase has a reasonable return policy should the speakers not perform to your expectations.

While many of the vendor specifications state a maximum distance of 100m, remember that 100m is "marketing speak".  YOu will always get the best sound quality and performance when using the Bluetooth computer speakers in direct line of sight.   Whenever the signal must pass through walls etc..., the quality of sound and supported distance will be negatively affected.

If your overall goal is to "pipe" audio throughout your living environment be forewarned.
If you are using multiple speakers that use different types of transmission mediums (wired, wifi, bluetooth) you may experience serious sound quality issues.  Propagating audio through multiple mediums will certainly cause variable delays in sound.  The result is audio that is painful to listen to.

Configuration of Bluetooth speakers is pretty straight forward.  There will be an initial pairing process.  Pairing is when the Bluetooth speakers and computer become synchronized.
Most laptops have Bluetooth wireless support built in.  Pairing may require you to input a passkey.  Try 1234 or 0000.  If neither of these codes work then check the speaker's user manual.  If you are wanting to hook up the Bluetooth speakers to a computer that does not have built in Bluetooth support, you can easily pick up a Bluetooth USB adapter for your computer. 

Finally, always try before you buy.  If possible, go listen to a wide variety of music through the Bluetooth computer speakers before opening your wallet.  If you like your music loud, turn it up in the store.  If anyone looks at you funny....start dancing.  :)
