Logitech's Z-2300 Computer Speakers
If you want to just hook up your speaker system, sit down and experience quality
sound then Logitech's Z-2300 computer speakers are the right choice. Yes, this is a 2.1 speaker system so
even though it doesn't have the hardware capabilities of a 5.1 system, it still produces superior sound. As
soon as you hook these gems up you'll discover that no matter the genre of music, the sound is full with excellent
fidelity. Believe me, these speakers won't be the weak link in the audio chain. Whatever the
quality of your original source music (CD, DVD, WMA, MP3) - you'll get that same quality out of these
speakers. No annoying hum during quiet areas of the musical piece. No cracking when you crank the
volume up either.
You really won't miss having a center speaker. If you close your eyes, you
can't tell the difference. You get the audio experience as if you have a center speaker while not having to
deal with the clutter of another speaker on your desktop.

Hooking this system up is simple. The speakers plug in to the
subwoofer. The subwoofer plugs in to the sound card. Done. The control module is designed for
ease of use. The dials are large to control bass and volume. You don't have to hunt all over to find
the off switch either. If you listen late at night or if you don't wish to disturb others then the control
module also provides a jack for headphones. Nice. No crawling under the desk to plug headphones in to
the computer sound card!
The hardware also includes graphic equalizer software. This provides a bank
of software sliders for boosting and reducing various bands (or frequency ranges) of sound. The best way to
take advantage of this is to set your audio cards'software so that the equalizer is flat (straight line) all the
way across (midway from top to bottom). If the audio player you use also provides an equalizer set that
"flat" as well. Only use the speaker's software to mix the
frequencies for the best sound.
These speakers are also THX certified. Once you hear them you will know
why. The sound is BIG. 200 Watts big. Gamers will fall in love. While you don't have the
ability to turn the subwoofer portion completely off (why would you want to?) you can adjust the equalizer on the
lower frequencies to attenuate the sound nicely if needed.
There are only two problematic areas and they may not even be a problem for your
situation. First, the speaker wire is a fixed length. No room to get fancy here. Second,
the subwoofer is physically big. I only see this as a problem if this system is installed in a smaller office or
space. You may want to measure first prior to buying or at least know in advance where the subwoofer will
fit.
Overall, the Logitech's Z-2300 speaker system is a great buy. You would pay
triple this amount for the same sound quality from other manufacturers. We give this system 4.75
stars!
